This week Icthus looked to keep pace with Anglicans at the top of the league when they faced point less St Andrews who are still looking for their first win. Monks Hadleigh were also looking to keep the gap between them and Icthus down to three points when they played Sudbury Christians who are on a good run of form. In the third match Edens looked to halt a bad run of form against Baptists who themselves were looking to overtake Edens in the league table.
The first match saw a new record set as Icthus defeated St Andrews by eighteen goals to nil for the biggest win margin ever in a Fellowship football match. The previous record was seventeen - nil by Sudbury Baptists over Edens. Ryan Houghton and Ben Hyden both scored double hat tricks to take them both equal top of the goal scoring charts with sixteen apiece for the year. Kenny Ross scored a hat trick, Stuart Hitchcock a brace and Dan Richards just the one to complete the scoring. Icthus took the three points with ease and closed the gap with Anglicans at the top to just three points. St Andrews still without a point but are still hanging in there at the bottom.
In the late games Monks Hadleigh and Sudbury Christians played each other in certainly the most thrilling game of the evening. Both these teams went into the game on the back of good form and Christians went two - nil up thanks to a brace from Jamie Bacon. Monks Hadleigh rallied and came back at Christians. Jack Hines scored a hat trick to bring Monks back to win the game three - two. Monks keep pace with Icthus as the top of the table teams begin to pull away from the chasing pack. Christians remain where they are in the table.
In the third of this weeks games Sudbury Baptists took on Edens who have been struggling for points after a very strong start to the season. Sudbury Baptists have recovered from their slower start to the year and looked to overtake Edens with a win. In a fast paced game that was end to end it finished four - nil to the Baptists with goals from Chris Ayrton, Aaron and guest players Gavin Taylor and Aaron Taylor.
So Icthus move closer to Anglicans who they face next week in another crunch match. Anglicans will be looking to repeat their last match where they took a 2-1 win. Icthus will know that if they win they will overtake Anglicans at the top. Monks Hadleigh will be looking to move closer to the top when they play Sudbury Baptists whilst Baptists will be looking to keep the momentum going from this week match. Last time out Monks took a convincing 7-0 victory but will they be able to repeat that feat.In the third game next week St Andrews again go in search of those first points when they play Sudbury Christians. Christians will want to make sure they don’t drop further points after losing to Monks come back this week. The last time these two played Christians took a narrow 2-1 win so nothing is certain.
