Our Disciplinary Procedures

Proverbs 3v11-12

My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, Nor detest His correction;

For whom the LORD loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights.

After each game, the team overseers and assistants are asked to give an assessment rating for the overall spirit in which their match has been played. The average rating for all the weeks matches is displayed on our web-site.

In addition to submitting the ratings, the team overseers and assistants are asked to supply the names of any players whose conduct, for whatever reason has been of concern to them.

On occasion in Fellowship Football we’ve found that a few players have sadly stepped out of line. When that happens it’s disappointing, but it’s not entirely unexpected. We recognise that human beings are bound to go astray in one way or another.

The bible tells us that God disciplines us when we go astray. Not out of some sadistic pleasure, but because he loves us too much to let us turn into spoilt brats. This is something that the organisers of Fellowship Football have tried to keep this in mind when we introduced our own disciplinary system.

Procedure for players

If a player is named by a team official, because there has been a problem with his conduct, that player is to be told about it by his team overseer and given the chance to change.

If it happens again, The offending players team overseer should notify the player that his conduct has caused offence and clearly explain why. The player is to be rested for the next two matches.

On his return, should he be reported by a third team, the player will be given a final warning and rested for a further week.

If the team overseer is satisfied that the player intends to play in a good spirit in future he is allowed to continue, but should he be reported by a fourth team, then the player would not be able to take any further part in FF for the rest of that season.

In future seasons, it would only be able possible for the player to rejoin the league if he could satisfy the league organising committee that he intended to turn over a new leaf.

(As in previous seasons, where there has been an act of serious misconduct, offending players are immediately rested until the league committee can hold an enquiry and meet with the players concerned.)

Procedure for teams

The following procedure was adopted by the committee to handle situations where the average spirit in which a team is playing falls below the required standard of 3. The teams overseer will be notified at a committee meeting that his team are receiving a notice to improve. The team overseer will advise his team that they have received the warning. If the average of at least 3 is not achieved over the next three matches, then the team will receive a points deduction decided by the committee at the end of the season.

Our first game of the night was between 3rd placed Monks Hadleigh and lowly Town pastors who have yet to get point this year. Town Pastors will have to continue wait for their first points as they were beaten by a competent Monks Hadeigh 4-0.

The second game was high flying Vineyard v New Church, if Vineyard win this game it would take them top. That’s exactly what they did by winning 3-2 in a close game, but it was a good effort from New Church.

The final game of the night was the rearranged cup game between Team CPC and Churches Together. The game finished with a 1-0 victory for Churches Together with a rare goal from Kevin Gault.
