Last season, United had been the top dogs in this North Street derby fixture, but this term, the Claret’s have been lagging behind their sister team.

The match started brightly with both teams playing some good attractive football. This was a pattern that continued throughout the game and made for a very entertaining spectacle.

United took the lead with a screamer from Ben Rush.

Play moved from end to end as both sides had their periods of dominance. A lovely through ball from Dave Senior opened the way for Scott Barnes to add United’s second. The Claret’s showed a bit more resolve and perhaps this was the only difference between the two teams.

United will go away from this match relieved to have finally managed to get a win under their belt  Maybe they will look back at this match as a turning point.
